FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions:
LEATHER CONDITIONERS (Beesbutter & Rich Lotion)
What’s the difference between Beesbutter and Rich Lotion Leather Conditioners?
Answer: We offer a Balm and a Lotion option from our Leather Conditioner line up. Each are made from all-natural ingredients, and offer different finish sheens as well as different levels of coverage.
Our Beesbutter Leather Conditioner Balm offers a lighter sheen (not as glossy) as well as deeper coverage for cracks and scratches.
Our Rich Lotion Leather Conditioner is more of a water-based conditioner and offers a more glossy sheen finish and is a lighter coverage while still offering a deep conditioning.
Both have their place in the leather conditioning process and if you’d like our advice before making your purchase, give us a call at 443-569-7225 or email info@agedleatherpros.com
Are your products cruelty free?
Answer: Yes, all of our products are cruelty free.
Can I use this on suede leather?
Answer: Suede does not require conditioning like more traditional leather hides. However, it does require protection from stains.
To protect your suede, you will want to use our Leather Waterproofing Spray to keep your suede from absorbing stains and provide a protective barrier without matting down the nap.
To clean your suede, use our Leather Cleaning Spray along with our Suede/Nubuck Cleaning Brush.
Can you use this on nubuck leather?
Answer: Nubuck leather typically does not get conditioned, but rather cleaned and waterproofed. Using the Leather Cleaning Spray, spray and coat the nubuck completely. With a soft bristle brush, like our Horse Hair Cleaning Brush, lift debris and stains out of the nubuck. Allow your nubuck to dry and then use our Suede/Nubuck Cleaning Brush, and lift away any remaining debris. Shower all your nubuck with our Waterproofing Spray to ensure your nubuck is sealed and protected from water or future stains.
Will leather conditioner help disguise cracks in leather furniture?
Answer: Absolutely! We recommend our Beesbutter Leather Conditioner Balm to disguise small cracks in your leather furniture as the balm offers a deeper coverage.
Does the leather conditioner have a scent?
Answer: Sensitivity to scents are different for every person. We work hard to use quality ingredients that do not have any scent. Our triple-filtered and all-natural ingredients will not emit any pungent scent. If you sense a faint scent upon application, you can expect it to fade as your leather takes in the conditioning products.
Can I use your waterproofing spray over the leather conditioner products?
Answer: Yes, you can use the Waterproofing Spray after either leather conditioner product has fully dried. We would recommend at least 1 day to ensure completed dry time.
Can I use this conditioner for a shearling coat?
Answer: Yes, our Beesbutter Leather Conditioner Balm or our Rich Lotion Leather Conditioner can be used on lambskin shearling leather. Of course, we always recommend you first test a small, inconspicuous area to ensure your particular leather will take the all-natural product to meet your expectations!
Which product would you recommend best for a semi-used leather jacket?
Aged Leather Pros offers two types of leather conditioners. A balm and a lotion. They both work great on a semi-used leather jacket, it just depends on the type of material you want to work with! Some folks like to rub on a balm while others like the water-base of the lotion better. Both products are all-natural, beeswax-based products and would work equally as well.
Can leather conditioner be used on a faux leather jacket?
Thank you for asking! Our conditioners are NOT made for faux leather. That type of material does not need to be "conditioned" but simply cleaned. Our Leather Cleaning Spray is safe to clean your faux leather jacket.
Will this work for a sheepskin shearling jacket that has dried out on me?
Shearling sheepskin is a great hide for jackets keeping you cozy warm all winter. There are a couple different finishes that may or may not be right for this particular product. We always recommend you follow the manufacturers recommendations on cleaning and conditioning primarily. If your shearling sheepskin has a smooth finish (not pelt or nap) then this product will work to condition the dried out hide. You will want to ensure you test a small inconspicuous area first to ensure the finish is to your liking before using it on the entire jacket.
Will this also protect my hat?
Yes, if your hat is genuine leather, it will also work on hats!
I have purple leather seats in my car so will this make a drastic color change to my seats?
Anytime you condition leather that is dried out, you will restore to its original color, which is typically a deeper color, because the leather will be replenished. It's best to test any product you use in a small, inconspicuous location to ensure you will be happy with the restoration.
Does this work at all on interior car vinyl or plastic?
NO. Our leather conditioners are designed for the leather to absorb into the pores. It would most likely just sit on top of vinyl or plastic and just wipe off.
I have a leather lounge chair that's worn on the seat area. Besides conditioning, will this add that shiny protective surface?
Yes, our leather conditioners will not only condition but also restore with a protective coating to your worn leather seat. We recommend testing a small area first to ensure the finish is to your liking. It may take a few applications if it's been a long time between conditioning treatments, so be patient with the restoration process.
I have a set of 1912 leather bound books. Will this restore the leather without damage?
We know those 100+ year old books are definitely keepsakes and are happy you asked. We have had many happy customers use our all-natural beeswax-based leather conditioners on old Bible's and other leather bound books who were very pleased with the restoration. As always, we recommend you test a small, inconspicuous spot to ensure you will be pleased with the results.
LEATHER CLEANER SPRAY
Will the leather cleaning spray remove water stains from suede and nubuck?
Our products are designed to help remove stains from all types of leather; however, it depends on the type and condition of the nap. All leather is like a living, breathing material and just like every person, every hide is different. If your suede has never been water treated and the stains are really bad, we cannot make any guarantees.
Can the leather cleaning spray be used on dyed or colored suede?
As always, we recommend you test this in a small, inconspicuous spot first to ensure it will yield the results you expect. If the suede was dyed properly, you should have no issues with using our Leather Cleaning Spray on your suede that has been color treated.
Are your products cruelty free?
Yes, all of our products are cruelty free.
LEATHER WATERPROOFING SPRAY
How much product do you need for a suede couch?
That is a great question and the answer is it depends! You should normally get 1-2 applications or more out of the 8oz. bottle. However, it depends on the couch size and how much you want to protect your couch. For example, if you have a traditional 6 ft slim couch, you will likely use 2-4 oz of the spray in one application.
Is this product safe to use on soft leather jackets? Does it stain light color leathers?
Yes, you can use the Leather Waterproofing Spray on all leather. After application, should you see any “white spots”, use a soft microfiber cloth and lightly buff.
